EPD Asks Witnesses to Come Forward
Staff Report
Humboldt Sentinel
On Saturday night, October 6 at 9:26 p.m., the Eureka Police Department responded to a traffic collision in the 2100 block of Broadway. The collision involved a pick-up truck driving northbound and a pedestrian crossing Broadway.
Officers arrived on scene and spoke with the driver of the pick-up. The pedestrian sustained significant injuries and was transported to the emergency room at St. Joseph’s Hospital.
She was later air-lifted to the University of California Medical Center at Davis due to the extent of her injuries and remains in stable, but critical, condition.
After speaking with parties and witnesses, officers believe the pedestrian attempted to cross Broadway outside of a crosswalk, at night, during foggy conditions.
It appears the driver of the pick-up truck was operating his vehicle safely.
The Eureka Police Department reminds motorists to drive safely during foggy conditions and pedestrians to use crosswalks when crossing streets.
This is an ongoing investigation– and witnesses are encouraged to contact Officer Peter Cress (707) 441-4044.

Broadway has been the location of numerous accidents and even fatalities over the past year. It’s a very dangerous thoroughfare for both drivers and pedestrians alike, the latter frequently seen crossing the boulevard outside the designated crosswalks in haphazrd fashion.
The location of this accident, in the 2100 block of Broadway, sits between the Serenity Inn on one side, and Harbor Lanes Bowling Alley on the other.
These pictures of the nearby area from the CalTrans camera on the right show how visibility at night is severely restricted. During foggy conditions, visibility is virtually nonexistent.
