Staff Report
Humboldt Sentinel
In the early morning hours of Saturday, November 17, Arcata Police officers were dispatched to the 3400 block of West End Road to investigate a report of a male subject standing in the reporting party’s driveway with a flashlight and a rifle, an APD release reported.
The male subject, a stranger to the reporting party, watched her as she drove up to her driveway. Frightened, the reporting party drove away and called police. She was not injured.
Officers contacted the male walking on West End Road approximately 3 minutes later.
He was identified as John Paul McDonald, age 49,of Arcata. He was found in possession of a fully loaded–and also stolen– rifle.
Mr. McDonald made statements leading officers to believe he was under the influence of drugs. He does not currently live on or near West End Road, according to his California ID.

Whew. That was a close one. Everyone survived. We’re glad he didn’t get off a shot, making a bad situation turn terribly for the worse.
Please remind us to drop by some donuts to APD for a job well done. Oh, that’s right, it’s Arcata. Croissants, then. Whole grain and organic, of course.
