–Description of Driver and Vehicle Made–

The following came to us via a Facebook post and
we’re reprinting it here, per request.
We’ve chosen to omit the names of the mother and daughter
that were originally provided for safety and privacy reasons
and we cleaned up some of the wording for clarity:
**ALERT EUREKA**
On Sunday February 24, 2013, my daughter (name omitted) was walking from Eureka High School to a friend’s home on J Street.
When she reached Buhne & J Street, a (Hispanic) male driving an older, faded-red van pulled up next to her as she was walking and told her to get in the van.
She told him “NO!” and took off running. He began to chase her. When she reached the white church on J Street she ran around the side of the church and hid until her friend down the street, and her boyfriend, came and took her to a friend’s home.
She was then brought to me and we contacted the Eureka Police Department and made a report. EPD
released the information to surrounding law enforcement
and said they would contact me if they found the suspect.
(My daughter) was not injured, other than being very scared and crying for some time from the fear that creep made her feel. She is OK. I thank the Lord for keeping her safe and am so proud of her for doing what I taught her to do. I’m also very proud of her for being able to remember so much detail about the van and driver.
If anyone should happen to see the van and/or driver described PLEASE call EPD (#441-4060; or, 911) and give them the location. I want this creep found!
I have told all my girls no more walking alone, ever. How sad it is a person cannot walk a few blocks on a sunny Sunday afternoon without trying to be abducted. I thank you for any and all help. Please share this if you want. The more who read it, the better the chances are of him being found.
The description is as follows:
- Hispanic male with greasy, slicked black hair down to his ears;
- Wearing a white tank top;
- Wearing a cross around his neck;
- Bearing a tattoo of something written in Spanish on his right arm;
- Driving a faded-red, older Minivan (pretty close in style as a Plymouth Voyager)
- The Minivan has a cross hanging from the rear view mirror, a sticker on the back window, and a dent on the driver side door.

To note and for what it’s worth, there are a few vague similarities between this incident and two others allegedly occurring near the same area about a year ago.
The Eureka Police Department finally put out an alert on the above for citizens– 5 days afterwards.

Well Red bluff P.D. found a body next to the high school apparently that of a 14 year old . I hope its unrelated but I do worry ?
We live in a different day and age where we have to be concerned about our kids, their whereabouts,walking alone, and strange strangers nowadays. It didn’t used to be like this when we were young. We were allowed to roam free and aloof until dark. Or dinnertime, whichever came first. Of course, we didn’t wear bicycle helmets, use seat belts much (until later), we drank out of garden hoses and rode free in the back of pickup trucks, too. We certainly didn’t have to worry about being abducted, either.
On that note, however, bmasson, there is another issue to bring up. Mom posted the above attempted child abduction on the KIEM Facebook page warning others shortly after reporting it to the police, on February 24. We posted the information here two days ago, February 26, after we learned of it.
EPD, however, didn’t issue their press release on the matter for the public and media until late this afternoon– 4-5 days later. Why did EPD wait so long when it comes to important public safety and community awareness? Perhaps they were busy with other, more pressing priorities?
To Mom’s credit, all of the details she provided, and we posted, were consistently accurate with the report that EPD issued today.
We sincerely hope– and kindly suggest– that EPD issue their public safety alerts sooner than they did in this situation.
Let me get this straight;
A male hispanic with slicked back hair, hispanic tattoos, wearing a white tank top, driving a van with a cross hanging from the rearview mirror?
That could be any friggin mexican in California.
You can thank the immigration department and all the potfarmers for employing these guys.
