About Us

The Humboldt Sentinel was founded in 2005 to provide readers and viewers with unique and uncompromising perspectives on news, culture and opinion for northern California and beyond. Our intention is to uphold the best standards and practices of ethical, in-depth investigative and advocacy journalism, with undying passion to reveal the uncomfortable and often overlooked truths that affect daily existence.

We pledge to hold no allegiance, curry no favor nor possess any preconception which prevents us from uncovering the whole truth on issues of community significance. Thus, we promise to never subsume our news coverage or our presentation of the diversity of opinion to any political candidate or party, any potential or current advertiser or any other undue influence on factual reporting and genuine openness to the diversity of our community. Yet we also treat our reporters and contributors as citizens in their own right, who shall maintain their independence of thought and who shall not have their freedom of association abridged because of their association with the Humboldt Sentinel.

We recognize the crucial and underreported role the media itself plays in shaping elections, the economy and social development. We vow our willingness to be critical of the coverage presented by ourselves and our competitors, and to encourage the development of a wide array of means available for citizens to make use of public spaces, public airwaves and public databases.

We invite and encourage feedback and involvement from our readers and potential supporters so we may serve each other better. Please write us at editor ~AT~ humboldtsentinel.com or call (707) 667-3302 with your questions, comments or contributions.

We also accept donations.
